West Village is a new neighborhood center for the area of Downtown Florence west of Pine Street. A number of factors throughout the 20th century conspired to push residents out of the city center and into newly-built suburbs outside of town. That trend has now almost entirely reversed, with real estate near downtown being in high demand and some suburban neighborhoods seeing declining property values and disinvestment.
Further, on a national stage, small markets with affordable housing and high quality of life like Florence have become attractive to people living across the United States who can now work from anywhere.
